Racism and Women Studies

After reading this speech, i realized that she really never said anything, very important. Is was more like saying this shouldn't happen and some women try to negate to past. By saying that this had nothing to with it. I enjoy one of her first statements, when she says" For those of you who are tired of hearing about racism, imagine how much more tired we are of constantly experiencing it, second by second literal  second, how much more exhausted we are to see it constantly in your eyes". I really like this quote because she is saying you can bitch all you want but really don't understand what is going on. I what is trying to says is that you don't have the right to complain about hearing this all the time. Since you haven't lived through it you just think because you are part of something does not completely mea that you have lived through the pain and struggles that other women have lived through.Also when she says "Feminism is the political theory and practice that struggles to free all women of color, working-class women, poor women, disabled women, lesbians, old women, as well as white, economically privileged, heterosexual women. Anything less than is vision of total freedom is not feminism, but merely female self-aggrandizement." This particular quote really hit me to appoint where i was feeling this way in the being of semester that why is not everything like. Why must they be two views of this and not just one solid particular view that us as a whole can live and think with. When Smith says this i feel like she understand me as a person and as an african american women. This is what we as women have been fighting for. Let me reshape that this is what we as people have been fighting for in a way of true equality.

People Like Us

After watching the film People Like Us, i complete disagree with what the sociologist Lawerence Mead said. That is the complete opposite for some of the people in that film. Some people work extremely hard and still can not make. And what does he mean when he says rational to some people is the american dream which many people strive for poor and rich. After watching the film what i noticed is that some the people are the ones that end to act and talk irrationally to a point, where at times listening to what they said made me sick to my stomach.What i noticed with the film is most of the privileged teens did not have rational thinking at all. To a point where, while that film i thought is this what the world is coming to. What Sociologist Lawerence Mead might have meant was that some poor people or what was shown in the film was that rednecks( very poor white people) are the ones that are viewed upon as the people that do not think rational. Rather they think "we are where we are why dont we make the best of it". In the film they do make the best of what they have. But one amazing women did not want she want better. She story made me sad and cry, but at the same time it gave me hope.
